Leap Into New Knowledge :: Current Students

Expectations

You were selected as a LINK student based on your academic record and endorsement by your teacher and counselor. This selection process is to help ensure that you will succeed at Portland State University. It is important that you do well, given that the PSU grade you earn will become part of your permanent college record. We expect our LINK students to maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average and we expect you to take the initiative to seek help early on if you find that your coursework is more difficult or challenging than you expected.

We’re your advocates; let us know right away if you are having doubts about your progress. Also, we strongly encourage you to establish a relationship with your instructor. At the start of the quarter, make an appointment or stop by during office hours (instructors will typically let you know at the beginning of the term where their offices are and what their student “office hours” for the term will be) to introduce yourself and let the instructor know you’re a high school student. A fundamental difference between high school and college is that the responsibility for your success is yours. It is unrealistic to expect your instructor to come to you if there are worries or concerns.

Finally, it’s important to note that Federal laws governing colleges and student privacy PREVENT us from discussing your coursework with anyone but you, unless you give written consent. If you are a parent, please make a special note of this.
